· Jesus said, “You did not choose me, but I chose you... John 15:16

· Jesus said, “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him:” John 6:44 KJV

· Also, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by  my Father.” John 6:65 NKJV

· The apostle Paul said, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,” Eph 1:3-5 KJV

It has pleased the Father to adopt us. He has come into the orphanage of this world and selected us (elected us) according to the good pleasure of his will. Paul said he did this before the foundation of the world, or before God made the world. It pleased him to do this.

This choosing by God is called election in the Greek. The Greek word for elect is ecclesia. This word is the word for church (Iglesias in Spanish. We get the work ecclesiology [study of church government] from this word)—the chosen of God. We are the Church, the elect, the chosen of God.

We are the elect, the chosen of God as a group. Individually we are also the elect because each of us is chosen of God.

Some say that although God chooses us, we still need to choose Him.

But John makes it clear that this work of saving (salvation) is all God’s work:

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become              children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born,              not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.              John 1:12-14 NKJV

So, those of us who are saved by the will of God are not saved by blood—by being born in to a Christian family, nor by our own efforts and works; not by willing (choosing). We are born by a sovereign work of God.

...no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that              no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.1 Cor 12:3              KJV

It is the Holy Spirit working in us who actually confesses that Jesus is Lord. So we can safely say that it was the Lord Himself, and nothing in me that saved me. That God sovereignly saved me.

God has sovereignly saved all of us who are the Church of Philadelphia.
